Apple has kept a tight lid on restricting BitTorrent-related apps ( such as a BitTorrent client controller) on the iPhone, noting that "this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third party rights. While BitTorrent apps live, and do whatever they want, freely on Mac OS X, the story is different on the iPhone. And it is made for Mac, while uTorrent was just converted into Mac. This really boils down to personal preference. Whether or not you end up switching to uTorrent, however, is another matter, as Transmission is comparable in its feature set. If you really don't want to use Transmission, 5Torrent (that's the Greek letter mu) is free and open source, and you can find it at. In my tests, the app launches faster than Transmission, and occupies a smaller footprint - its DMG and the app are both smaller than Transmission. This might be a time to consider trying uTorrent. However on the alpha release speed is approximately the same if not a fraction better than Transmission. uTorrent is a free to download application that enables any Mac or PC user to easily find. The Mac interface is written in Objective-C, uses dock badges and Growl notifications while the GTK+ interface follows GNOME Human Interface Guidelines and has support for popup notifications, desktop sounds, and a system tray. uTorrent and Transmission are two excellent BitTorrent apps. Transmission works well on OSX and various distributions of Linux due to having interfaces natively developed for those operating systems instead of haphazardly ported. It uses very few resources as compared to other BitTorrent clients.

After living most of its life in Windows, the popular BitTorrent client went beta on the Mac in late 2008, and has seen a host of updates since then. I'm not new to torrents or utorrent on the mac but truth to tell the beta version 9.2 just plain sux when compared to transmission for speed, in my case it's usually around 20k down while transmission can achieve 500k on the same torrent. ProNative Mac, GTK+ and Qt interfaces provide seamless integration with OSX and Linux systems. Transmission is a free BitTorrent client available for Linux.

UTorrent has recently been updated to version 1.0 (Windows users are up to version 2.0.2), its first major point release since going beta on Mac OS X.
